Pinned in Pittsburgh: WWE Night Packs a Punch
WWE Night returned to Pittsburgh with the Penguins, and it was PERFECT… well, almost.
This season, the Penguins have rolled out a long list of theme nights designed to appeal to every type of hockey fan, including those who love professional wrestling. With WWE Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker in the house, it was destined to be a smashing success—and it absolutely was.
Fans had the chance to create their own WWE-style signs, filling the arena with creativity and humor reminiscent of a live wrestling event. The music of fan-favorite wrestlers boomed through the arena, hyping up the crowd between plays. We even showed legendary WWE clips, including one of the most iconic moments in wrestling history: The Undertaker throwing Mankind off the Hell in a Cell during the 1998 King of the Ring in Pittsburgh. That jaw-dropping fall has become a cornerstone of WWE lore, and watching it on the big screen brought chills to everyone in the building.
But my night took a turn when Iceburgh cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on me. In a shocking betrayal, Iceburgh delivered a pie to my face and pinned me right there in front of 18,000 fans. 1… 2… 3. He stood triumphantly on my chest, holding the belt that was once mine over his head as the new "champion."
In all seriousness, being asked by the Penguins' front office to play a significant role in producing the WWE-themed segments throughout the night was an honor. As a lifelong WWE fan, this night was a culmination of so many childhood dreams. From brainstorming ideas to collaborating with Bron Breakker and WWE, every moment felt surreal. And yes, even the pie to the face and losing my title will be cherished as a moment of wrestling history I got to share with Penguins fans.
A massive thank you to WWE for their help in making this unforgettable night possible. It was truly a dream come true.
