The Future Is Forged In Wheeling
On February 10th, 2024, I embarked on an unforgettable journey to Wheeling, West Virginia, a city steeped in hockey tradition, to be a part of Pittsburgh Night with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL affilate of the Pittsburgh Penguins). As the In-Arena Host of the Pittsburgh Penguins, this was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.
Upon arrival at the WesBanco Arena, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia as the small yet vibrant arena reminded me of my time in Bridgeport with the Bridgeport Islanders (AHL affilate of the New York Islanders). The energy was palpable, and the anticipation for the game was electric.
I was honored to co-host the game alongside the esteemed long-time Wheeling Nailers host, Corey Klug.
The atmosphere inside the arena was nothing short of spectacular. WesBanco Arena was filled to the brim with enthusiastic fans, marking one of the largest crowds the Nailers had seen all season.
Joining us for Pittsburgh Night was none other than Stanley Cup Champion, former Penguin, and current Special Assistant to the President of Hockey Operations, Trevor Daley. His presence added an extra layer of excitement as he graciously greeted fans and signed autographs.
The fun didn't stop there. Pittsburgh Penguins Mascot Iceburgh and Scranton Wilkes-Barre Penguins Mascot Tux teamed up to bring joy and laughter to the crowd, engaging fans of all ages in entertaining activities and antics throughout the game.
As for me, I found myself fully immersed in the excitement of the night. From participating in Tug of War to braving the center ice and enduring a barrage of chuck-a-pucks, every moment was a thrill.
I was overwhelmed with gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to me by the Wheeling community. Their passion for hockey and unwavering support for their team were truly inspiring.
Looking ahead, I eagerly anticipate the opportunity for these fantastic fans to visit PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, where they can witness firsthand how we rock the house for the Penguins.
